I find it remarkable how far Ron Paul supporters will go to defend a man who holds demonstrable racist, homophobic, and antisemitic views, and what is more interesting is that people are shocked that a conservative Congressman from Texas – the buckle of the Bible Belt – could hold those views. That might be understandable if Rep. Paul was a real libertarian on social issues, which he isn’t – he is happy to allow poor people to die because they can’t afford healthcare, but when it comes to issues like abortion and same-sex marriage, he is all but too happy to use government to control people’s lives. Hardly individualism or freedom, but it’s okay – at least he doesn’t believe in things like helping people.
